Got a question? We’ve got answers!
Not at all. Whilst we're all about plant based nutrition, Holy Plantz is for anyone who wants to eat well and feel good. If you’re used to meat or chicken, the idea of incorporating tempeh into your diet may feel suspicious at first...(especially if your reference point is bland old tofu). But tempeh is on a whole other level. It’s rich, meaty, and satisfying—and yes, carnivores are some of our biggest fans.
Fair question—and the answer is a big nope. Fake meats are usually ultra-processed, packed with seed oils, preservatives, and additives. They’re hard to digest and often leave you feeling like you swallowed a brick. Tempeh is the real deal. It’s an ancient fermented superfood made from clean, whole ingredients—nothing fake about it. Thanks to fermentation, it’s loaded with gut-friendly microbes (hello, prebiotics and probiotics) and becomes incredibly easy to digest. Even better? The nutrients become more bioavailable, so your body can actually absorb and use them.
Not quite! Rot is what happens when food breaks down in a bad way. Fermentation is the opposite—it’s a controlled process that uses beneficial microbes to enhance food, not destroy it. In tempeh, fermentation takes plain legumes and transforms them into a nutrient-rich, easier-to-digest block of plant-based protein. It also fills your gut with natural probiotics, prebiotics & enzymes, that support digestion and overall health. So no—it’s not rot. It’s real-deal, ancient food science.
Why’s tempeh pricier? Because it’s the real deal. Tofu is just coagulated soy milk—quicker, more processed, and skips fermentation. Tempeh? It’s slow-fermented, made from whole legumes, higher in fiber, and higher in protein. Studies show it delivers up to 10x better nutrient absorption. So yeah—it costs a bit more. But it gives a whole lot more.
Robots? Nah. Holy Plantz is handmade from start to finish—by actual humans who know their craft and care deeply about quality. We don’t rely on big industrial machines or mass automation. Our tempeh is small-batch, artisan, and full of intention. You can literally taste the difference.
Think of tempeh like tofu that hit the gym—stronger, chewier, and higher in protein. Tempeh is a naturally fermented, plant-based superfood made from whole legumes—like soybeans, chickpeas, or lentils—bound together using live cultures. Through fermentation, the legumes form a firm, dense block that’s packed with protein, fiber, and gut-friendly nutrients. It’s got a neutral flavor and a hearty bite, making it perfect for marinating and cooking however you like.
Can’t we do both? 😉 At Holy Plantz, making epic tempeh is part of caring for the planet. We use organic, non-GMO legumes, keep our process small-batch and low-waste, and do our best to use compostable or recyclable packaging wherever possible. We’re not trying to save the world—we’re just doing our part not to wreck it… while making seriously good tempeh.
You bet! All of our tempeh is proudly made right here in Israel. We keep production small batch & in-house so we can stay close to every step of the process. That means better quality, fresher flavor—and tempeh made with 100% love, care, and good vibes.
Yes, we are! All of our products are certified kosher under the supervision of the Jerusalem Rabbanut.

In general, 1 block is anywhere between half a serving and a full serving, depending on how much protein you’re after. We generally recommend up to 2 blocks a day as part of a balanced diet. Tempeh is a great source of plant protein making it a great way to fuel up. That said, like anything good, too much might cause a little tummy drama.
Our original tempeh is raw and neutral in flavor—ready for you to season, marinate, or cook however you’d like. It’s perfect for those who love to get creative in the kitchen. Our marinated tempeh is pre-cooked and packed with flavor, infused with bold, handcrafted sauces made in-house. It’s ready to heat and eat—ideal for quick, delicious meals with zero prep.
In Indonesia, tempeh is often sold warm—straight out of the incubator! But here at Holy Plantz, we cool our tempeh down to fridge temperature to lock in freshness and pause fermentation. So yes—your tempeh needs to be kept in the fridge. Leaving it on the counter will kickstart fermentation again, which can affect both taste and texture. Original tempeh blocks: Last up to 1 week in the fridge Marinated tempeh blocks: Last up to 6 months in the fridge Keep it cold until you're ready to cook.
Absolutely! Tempeh freezes beautifully and holds up really well in the freezer. All tempeh products will last up to 6 months in the freezer. In order to use your frozen tempeh, simply thaw it in the fridge for a couple of hours. Freezing won’t affect the nutritional value—and some even say it improves the texture!
Not at all! Freezing your tempeh simply extends its shelf life—it doesn’t affect the nutritional profile. All those powerful nutrients and live cultures stay perfectly intact.
For the best taste and texture, we recommend enjoying your tempeh as soon as possible after defrosting - ideally within 6-12 hours. It's best not to leave it longer than 24 hours in the fridge once thawed, as freshness starts to decline after that.
Once you've cooked it up, your tempeh should stay tasty for 3 to 4 days in the fridge. If you pop it in an airtight container you may even get longer. If it begins to smell funky, just like anything else, its probably time to toss it out!
Great question—and no need to worry! The black spots you see occasionally on tempeh are totally natural. They’re a normal part of the fermentation process and a sign that the mycelium is fully mature. Think of them like the rind on a cheese—completely safe to eat and full of character. If your tempeh smells fresh and earthy (not sour or rotten), those spots are just part of the magic!
Absolutely. At Holy Plantz, we’re committed to using only the highest quality, ethically sourced ingredients. All of our legumes—including soybeans—are 100% organic and non-GMO. We believe great food starts with great farming, and that means no pesticides, no genetic modification, and no shortcuts—just clean, whole ingredients you can trust.
Yes, 100%! All Holy Plantz tempeh is completely vegan and gluten-free. We use only whole organic legumes, live cultures, and a touch of apple cider vinegar—no animal products, no wheat, and no hidden fillers. Just pure, clean, fermented goodness you can feel great about eating. And it doesn’t stop there—all our sauces and marinades are 100% vegan, gluten-free, and made without any processed sugars, chemicals, or preservatives. So every bite is clean, nourishing, and made with integrity.
That’s mycelium—the magical live cultures that binds the soybeans together and makes tempeh what it is. It’s a sign of healthy fermentation and full of gut-friendly goodness.
Some fans love snacking on our tempeh straight from the pack—and yep, it’s safe to eat raw. That said, we recommend cooking it to bring out the best in taste, texture, and digestibility. And don’t stress about the heat—while some probiotics may not survive, tempeh is still packed with prebiotics that help nourish and support a healthy gut.
Totally! Tempeh is a clean, wholesome source of plant powered protein, packed with iron & gut friendly goodness – perfect for growing bodies. In fact, since its fermented, it's also super gentle on little tummies. Start with small portions if it's their first time - just like you would with any new food. Healthy, happy, and kid-approved!
Absolutely! Our tempeh is safe to enjoy during pregnancy and can be a delicious way to support your body and your baby. It’s rich in plant-based protein, iron, and fiber—nutrients that play an important role in a healthy pregnancy. As always, we recommend consulting your healthcare provider for any personal dietary advice.
